Heart Transplant
Heart transplants are carried out when the heart can no longer function (heart failure). This procedure relies on there being a suitable donor heart available when it is needed.
During the procedure, the patient is placed on a heart bypass machine which takes over the heart function while the old heart is removed and the new heart is implanted and attached.
